First a question to ponder, if..... Endow means - To equip or supply with....in this case... To equip or supply with “certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” than who equipped or supplied these rights?
Yesterday, President Obama gave a speech in which he cited the famous second line from the Preamble of the United States Declaration of Independence: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
In his speech, Obama says: “What bound us together … was faith and fidelity to the shared values that we all hold so dear.”
Then he gets very solemn and intones: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal”
Then he pauses, grimaces and blinks a few times before continuing with: “endowed with certain inalienable rights: life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.’”
obama's has a near 4-second pause before he omits reference to our Creator. He stares at the teleprompter, purses his lips, blinks several times — as if confused, disturbed, and/or in the process of making a decision — and then proceeds to use his alternate wording.
In case you do not want to listen to the whole speech...than start @ 21:38 of the speech!
