I have young grandchildren that share my facebook page.
I have an obligation as a grandparent to set an example for them.
I humbly ask that we refrain from using bad language in the subject line.
If you want to make a difference, share an opinion or make a statement or whatever -
please keep your language professional!

This site (East Tennessee Symposium) was formed to be fun, interactive, and an ideal reference site for ideas and education for those who just want to know more about the every day life.

I do not think that limiting the vocabulary of a young person is the way to go and I do not think that vulgar/gross language or words should be part of every statement made or spoken....but there is a need to understand some words that some think are vulgar!

What I am referring to is the post …..https://easttnforum.forumotion.com/t460-all-msm-are-corrupt-bstards-not-just-alaska-s-media

The subject line is..... ALL MSM ARE CORRUPT B#STARDS NOT JUST ALASKA's MEDIA!

Palin Calls Alaska's Local Media 'Corrupt Bastards' ...http://politics.blogs.foxnews.com/2010/10/31/video-palin-calls-alaskas-local-media-corrupt-bastards-0

What did she mean? Look at the following definitions....
Definition of BASTARD:
Is something that is …..spurious (lacking authenticity or validity in essence or origin; not genuine; false.....a bastard style of architecture.), irregular, inferior, or of questionable origin.
...@....http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/bastard

(Life Sciences & Allied Applications / Breeds) a hybrid, esp an accidental or inferior one
adj (prenominal)...@...http://www.thefreedictionary.com/bastard

Sounds accurate to me!!!

and the post...... https://easttnforum.forumotion.com/t549-penis-enlargement-solution-banned

The subject line in the JOKES' topic...... PENIS ENLARGEMENT SOLUTION BANNED!

How do you explain the human reproductive system which is the organ system by which humans reproduce and bear live offspring?

Do you use a slang word like ding dong (or what every) that only the people in your family is familiar with? This I see no problem with... but the correct terminology should also be explained so they will know what it means when they hear it from somewhere else. Now, you may want to restrict their use of the correct terminology around your house......but... at least they will not be ignorant to the correct term!
Is not, sex and relationships education is ‘more effective when given my parents instead of on the play ground? Should it not be introduced before young people first have sex? Should not, sex education include information about sexually-transmitted infections, methods of contraception, pregnancy and abortion, because it can help children and teens delay sex until they are ready.
At what age should “sex and relationships education” be taught? How about the first time the child bring up the subject directly or indirectly? At some point you may have to bring up the topic if they never do! Their age would determine what and how much you teach at that time. But remember to finish the lesson before it is to late!
Look at the following web site....some if not most of this information is taught in schools (if I remember right some of it was taught back in my school days)....LOOK at the underlined ages! Is it appropriate for all of those ages??
You are here:
Homepage / School Age (5-13) / Human Gross Anatomy | Human Anatomy Biology | Huma

Welcome to inner exploration of Human Anatomy. Each topic has animations, 100’s of graphics, and thousands of descriptive links. Study the anatomy of the human body. It’s fun, interactive, and an ideal reference site for students or those who just want to know more about the medical descriptions used by doctors and nurses.
http://www.eduq.com/Sites/Human-Gross-Anatomy---Human-Anatomy-Biology---Huma.aspx

Now back to the posts in question...neither of the two appear on East Tennessee Symposium's Face book page. This is the reason I am puzzled about the comment (see quote)..... Let's Keep it Professional Folks- Facebook and Bad Language in the Subject Line???

PostSubject: Clean up the East Tennessee Symposium!   Let's Keep it Professional Folks- Facebook and Bad Language in the Subject Line EmptyWed 29 Dec 2010, 8:52 am

They were showing up on my facebook page, I hid the comments. If I am a friend of yours on facebook, every time you post something - it appears on my facebook wall.

Respectfully, I don't need your explanations. I respect and value your freedom of speech.
However, I have rights and values of my own that I have not given you permission to infringe upon.

If you want me to "friend" you and post your comments on facebook, you need to clean up your language.

Respectfully,

Penny Morrison

The explanations where not for you only. They were to explain to all that would be reading the "Subject: Let's Keep it Professional Folks- Facebook and Bad Language in the Subject Line".

I do not know no idea how the two "in question" could have shown up on your face book because, as I said, there are only 7 posts on East Tennessee Symposium's face book page, neither of the two were post.

I believe that I corrected the problem.

My only intent was to try to get visitors (who would become members) to East Tennessee Symposium!

Tis the reason for East Tennessee Symposium's Face Book page!

I know that the posts made on … https://easttnforum.forumotion.com ..did not appear on East Tennessee Symposium's Face Book page …. https://www.facebook.com/board.php?uid=159433660747087 …...so again, I do not understand how the two “in question” posts appeared on your face bookpage.

I admit I am lacking knowledge about Face Book. So if you can enlighten me....as to how this happen...I would greatly appreciate it.

If need be..... I will delete East Tennessee Symposium's Face Book page..... for I have no intent for any post/comment to go where it was not meant to be made...NO matter the language!!!!!

I'm not sure how facebooks works either - but to keep your posts from showing on my page -
I have two options...1. hide your posts or 2. unfriend you.
I don't want to unfriend you.
So for now, that I can check in from time to time, I have hidden your posts.
Don't delete the symposium from facebook. I liked having interesting topics show up on my page.
I wish that we could just keep the articles and posts professional.
I know several people would participate/join the discussion if it wasn't for the bad language.
Maybe word censorship wasn't such a bad idea. I don't think I ever had to worry about anything like this on the WATE Soundoff Forum.

You can read the post on the FB page but to post a comment on a topic you will have to be a FB member!
