Conservatives should just “turned the other cheek” and stopped defending themselves.

Here is a personal anecdote about how completely stupid, but ridiculously prevalent, this line of thinking really is.

If conservatives would just speak up, stop parroting that “just ignore them” garbage, and stand up to the bullies of the Left, I bet a good portion of these Leftists would crumple.
