It is clear to me, our public schools spend too much time on reading, math, and science when the focus should be placed on (indoctrinating.... uh excuse me) educating our children about issues of cultural and sexual diversity.
While India and China foolishly accentuate proficiency in math, science and information technology, we need to insure that our children are taught not to compete, and recognize that all cultures are equal, all standards are relative. Sensitivity to others is paramount. This way we can continue to produce well rounded English lit and liberal arts majors to fill the multitude of service industry jobs that fuel our economy. We can leave the business of innovation in science, medicine, and energy to China and India. We can still lead the world in the important areas such as movies, reality shows, celebrity watching and rap music. No one should be concerned, that in the PHD programs in the hard sciences maybe one in 10 candidates are native born Americans. Perhaps the open border crowd has it right, let the fureners handle the boring work of providing medical care, and pushing forward in the area's of engineering, and science.
Our children are not dumb! Lazy yes, the parents need to be the first educators then the teachers are the second educators. Too many lazy parents are not involved with their children and let video games and TV become their babysitters/educators.
The teachers are not only having to teach the basics anymore. Teachers are becoming moc parents to many students. Teachers are now teaching to and for the test. Learning is like a spiral curve, if you miss one step it causes problems with the next step. So if a teacher is making sure a student can pass the test and not making sure the student understands the information the next step will become even more difficult.
If it is not a priority, in your household to achieve a good education, then we can throw all the money in the world at the problem, and still have no success.
School kids can't make the grade, do away with the grading system, after all it is SOOOO UNFAIR. Lets pass everyone so no one is left behind. Better yet, do away with the school system, after all it is SOOOO UNFAIR.
Our schools, the media, unions, are all attractors for the political left and this is where we find the least responsibility as compared to other professions: the military, engineers, business.
There was a time when journalism was journalism, teachers were respected, and when unions represented strength, not sloth.
For Pete's sake...it begins with you. Stop crying and see what your kids are being taught. Get them away from the TV and cell phone...have them to read a book. Get off the damn couch and take a walk with them after work.
